Houston Texans @ Kansas City Chiefs
Date: Saturday, January 18
Time: 4:30 p.m. ET
Where to Watch: ESPN
Game Prediction: Chiefs 24, Texans 13
While Chargers QB Justin Herbert was criticized heavily after the loss to the Texans, the Texans defense didn’t get their proper credit — they looked stout in their first game fully healthy. Unfortunately, now they have to go on the road against a Chiefs offense that is looking as good as it has all year.
The lack of weapons in the Texans offense will rear its ugly head here, and I have very little doubt that Steve Spagnuolo’s defense will have problems containing this offense. However, the Texans defense will be able to get some stops to keep the game in reach.
PrizePicks Pick: Texans WR Nico Collins 78.5 Receiving Yards — Less
Washington Commanders @ Detroit Lions
Date: Saturday, January 18
Time: 8 p.m. ET
Where to Watch: FOX
Game Prediction: Lions 34, Commanders 24
The Commanders pulled off a close win over the Bucs, but in my eyes, it was much more of a Bucs loss than a Commanders win, as the Bucs shot themselves in the foot with crucial turnovers, and went passive on offense for most of the second half. Somehow, QB Baker Mayfield had only 18 pass attempts (15 completions) on nearly 10 yards per attempt.
Nothing about the Commanders win was especially impressive. And now, they come up against an efficient Lions offense.
On the Lions side, this banged up defense has looked vulnerable against explosive offenses, giving up 48 points to the Bills, and 31 to the Packers over their last five games. However, the 9-point stinker from the Vikings was a bright spot. They’ll do enough here to limit the Commanders, despite their injuries.
On the offensive side, the Lions are third in the league in offensive EPA, and they keep defenses on their toes. They’re going to have trouble limiting this offense, especially if they continue to stay aggressive, which is where the Bucs fell short.
PrizePicks Pick: Lions QB Jared Goff 268.5 Pass Yards — More / Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs 0.5 Rush+Rec TDs (Goblin)
Los Angeles Rams @ Philadelphia Eagles Prediction
Date: Sunday, January 18
Time: 3 p.m. ET
Where to Watch: NBC
Game Prediction: Rams 23, Eagles 20
I’ve been incredibly unimpressed with the Eagles offense down the stretch, especially when Jalen Hurts is dropping back to throw. While I hoped their game against the Packers would make me more comfortable, it did the opposite. On the bright side, the Eagles put up 37 points on this Rams defense two months ago, as RB Saquon Barkley rushed for 255 yards on 26 carries — nearly 10 yards per rush.
You have to think that the Rams will adjust, load the box, generate passing downs, and do their best to make Hurts have to beat them with his arm. The Eagles offensive line still has the clear advantage here, and slowing down Barkley is the only way the Rams can stay in this game. If that’s the case, I am skeptical about the Eagles getting first downs with Hurts’ arm.
Similar to how I felt about the Rams against the Vikings, I ultimately trust Matthew Stafford far more than the QB on the other sideline. The Rams offense was firing on all cylinders in the start against the Vikings, but then fell off after TE Tyler Higbee left the game — he’s expected to play in this game, however.
Give me Stafford to win this one in a clutch late-game drive to give them the lead for good.
PrizePicks Picks: Eagles QB Jalen Hurts 25.5 Pass Attempts — Less / Eagles RB Saquon Barkley 111.5 Rush Yards — More
Baltimore Ravens @ Buffalo Bills
Date: Sunday, January 18
Time: 6:30 p.m. ET
Where to Watch: CBS
Divisional Round Prediction: Ravens 30, Bills 26
The game of the week rounds out the Divisional Round on Sunday night, in what’s slated to be a very cold one — under 20 degrees at kickoff.
The Ravens defense continues to look dangerous down the stretch after making some key scheme adjustments, which was the main concern with this team earlier in the year. The Bills, on the other hand, are still looking for these receivers to step up — which limits their passing upside far too many cases.
On the offensive side for the Ravens, this is the best offense QB Lamar Jackson has ever had, with RB Derrick Henry in the backfield, and WR Zay Flowers expected to be back for this game. The threat of Henry or Jackson running the ball, and Jackson’s ability to pass on the move is going to cause problems for this Bills’ defense that is 19th in Expected Points Added per play since Week 11 — where the Ravens defense is 1st in the same metric over that span.
I’m rolling with the Ravens in a game where every single play will matter.
PrizePicks Picks: Bills RB James Cook 74.5 Rush+Rec Yards — More / Ravens QB Lamar Jackson 281.5 Pass+Rush Yards
