When is the AFC Championship Game 2025?
The AFC Conference Championship Game will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
The AFC Championship will be televised on CBS, with the winning team earning a trip to the 2025 Super Bowl. This game should provide a lot of star power and provide a lot of exciting moments, as it’s consistently one of the best NFL games of the year.
Where is the AFC Championship Game 2025?
The location of the AFC Championship Game is determined by the highest remaining seed left in the playoffs at that time.
This format benefits the teams that had the most success in the regular season, as the highest remaining seed will have home-field advantage. Home-field advantage can be beneficial as toxic environments may cause the road team to make mistakes in games that have high stakes.
As of now, the No. 1 seeded Kansas City Chiefs would have homefield advantage as they have the best record in the AFC.

Who are the AFC Championship Game Contenders?
These teams are the best contenders to reach the AFC Championship Game 2025:
- Kansas City Chiefs (11-1) — The back-to-back Super Bowl champions are at the top of my list for AFC Championship contenders. Sitting at #1 in the conference, there is no doubt they know how to win, especially in the playoffs. Although they haven't been as dominant in their games, someone has to beat them again before I doubt them.
- Buffalo Bills (10-2) — The Buffalo Bills have been a dynamic force this season, even topping the Chiefs. A lot of people thought the offense would struggle with WR Stefon Diggs leaving in the offseason, but the offense has maintained its productivity. QB Josh Allen has willed this team to be my personal favorite to go to the Super Bowl from the AFC.
- Pittsburgh Steelers (9-3) — Pittsburgh has caught the league off-guard. Dealing with what was a quarterback controversy, the Steelers have now found a way to win six of their last seven games. They do have a rough stretch to end the season playing the Eagles, Ravens, and Chiefs within 10 days. That late season test will tell just how much of a chance the Steelers have to win the AFC.
- Los Angeles Chargers (8-4) — Winning five of their last six games, the Chargers are looking to surprise a few teams. In one of the hardest divisions in football, the Chargers find themselves in a dog fight for second place with the Broncos. As long as their offense can stay consistent behind QB Justin Herbert then they have a chance, but I find it hard to see them in the Super Bowl this year. Look for them to continue to be in the conversation for years to come with Herbert under-center and Jim Harbaugh coaching.
- Baltimore Ravens (8-5) — The Baltimore Ravens were one of the early favorites to go to this year’s Super Bowl. Behind an explosive offense with weapons like QB Lamar Jackson and RB Derrick Henry who are both in MVP talks, the expectations haven’t been met. The defense has fallen apart most games and continued struggles from kicker Justin Tucker — making just 70% of his field goals, and just 53% from beyond 40 yards — have left the Ravens in a bind. If they want to compete for a Super Bowl, Kyle Hamilton and Kyle Van Noy will have to will this defense to outperform over the next two months, and Tucker has to get right.
2025 AFC Championship Game Prediction: Bills defeat Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs have proven that they are the team to beat, winning back to back Super Bowls. Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is also undefeated against Bills QB Josh Allen in the playoffs.
The Chiefs always find ways to win in the playoffs — but the Bills finally look ready. Their performance this season though, hasn’t been enough to convince me that they will go all the way.
My prediction for the AFC Championship Game? A nail-biting affair where the Bills defeat the Chiefs, 31-24.
