Bengals vs. Cowboys: Time, How to Watch
Date: Monday, December 9, 2024
Time: 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff
Location: AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Tex.
Where to Watch: ESPN, ABC, ESPN+ (Streaming)
This showdown between the 4-8 Bengals and the 5-7 Cowboys could be very unpredictable as both teams are looking to stay alive in the playoff hunt. Both teams have struggling defenses that their offenses typically can’t overcome. This matchup could provide for an offensive shootout.
The key to this game for both teams will be limiting the playmakers as Dallas seems to be outmatched in that department. If Dallas is able to control the line of scrimmage and win in the trenches then this game should be fairly interesting. If not, it could be a long day in Jerry’s World.
Surprisingly, when these teams last faced off in 2022, QB Cooper Rush was under center for the Cowboys, throwing for 235 yards and a touchdown.
Whether you prefer explosive offense or dominating defense, let's look into the best picks for Monday’s game below.
An additional way to watch this game is the Simpsons Funday Football stream, which will be live on ESPN+ and Disney+ at 8 p.m. ET.
Bengals QB Joe Burrow 2.5 Pass TDs (Demon) — More
Bengals QB Joe Burrow has been on a tear over the last four weeks averaging 3.75 touchdowns per game. The Bengals’ defense has struggled heavily all season long, allowing 369.2 yards per game. They are also 28th in rushing yards per game, with only 91.7 yards.
In doing so, the Bengals offense has been throwing the ball a majority of the time, relying on Burrow to score.
Both defenses in this game are bottom tier as the Cowboys and Bengals rank 26th and 27th respectively in yards allowed per game. Although the Cowboys defense has gotten healthier, I look for the Cowboys offense to have enough success against the Bengals’ defense to keep the game respectable.
Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase is also eventually going to get loose against this defense. I would assume he finds the end zone as he is a top-two wide receiver in the league.
Note: Demon picks increase your payout on PrizePicks, as they are harder projections to hit.
Cowboys K Brandon Aubrey 1.5 FG Made (Goblin) — More
Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey has been the most consistent aspect of this team. His only significant struggle came against the Commanders two weeks ago, and he still managed to cash this projection as he went 2-for-4 on field goals.
Averaging 2.66 attempts per game, the Cowboy offense has stalled quite a bit with QB Dak Prescott out for the season.
Aubrey should have enough opportunities to cash this projection as he has made two field goals in 10 games this season, an 83% rate. I believe the Cowboys offense will continue to stall on a few drives, even against a struggling defense.
Note: Goblin picks decrease your payout on PrizePicks, as they are easier projections to hit.
TD Scorer Pick: Bengals WR Tee Higgins (Demon)
Bengals WR Tee Higgins is always a focal point in this offense when healthy. Although the WR2 has been struggling with back and leg injuries all season long, Higgins returned last week by finding the end zone. All the focus is typically on Chase for opposing defenses, so Higgins is able to find open space on the backside of the secondary.
Higgins has been a key part of the offense when he does play, as he’s averaged almost 10 targets per game, with five touchdowns across seven games. He’s scored in three straight games he’s played in, and four of the last five.
The Cowboys pass rush led by Micah Parsons will need to be disruptive in order for the Bengals to not be able to operate efficiently on offense. The explosiveness by this Bengals’ passing offense could be on full display this week.
Note: Demon picks increase your payout on PrizePicks, as they are harder projections to hit.
Game Prediction: Bengals 34, Cowboys 23
This game should stay relatively close however, I can see the Bengals pulling away late in the game. Both defenses I believe will struggle as expected. The Bengals’ offense is very explosive, and the Cowboys will likely settle for field goals early in the game, which is what could be the difference in this game.
I don’t think this Cowboy offense has the skillset to be able to keep up with a Joe Burrow-led offense. The Cowboys’ secondary will need to stay disciplined and allow the pass rush to get home in order for Dallas to have a chance.
The Bengals’ secondary also needs to defend heavily against Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb as they must force Dallas to run the ball efficiently if they want to win.
Both teams are looking to stay alive in the playoff hunt, so emotions could be running high on primetime football.
