Panthers vs. Maple Leafs: Preview, Pick
Time: 7 p.m. ET
How to Watch: ESPN+
The Panthers' six-game winning streak was snapped in a tough loss in Boston, but this team is playing excellent hockey. At the start of the year, the defense wasn’t on par with last year's, but since the return from the 4 Nations Face-Off, that defense has been lights out and one of the best in the league.
The Panthers and Maple Leafs have been trading off first and second place in the Atlantic, and if the Leafs win in regulation, these two would be tied for first.
Toronto is an excellent team in the regular season, but the Leafs’ problem is they’ve only won one playoff series over the last 20 years. They have an excellent top forward line that features William Nylander, who is second with 36 goals, and Mitch Marner, who’s seventh in points (80).
They’ve needed that offense, because it's another year where the goaltending isn’t up to par. They’re allowing 2.95 goals allowed this season, better than 3.18 from last year, but that is still in the middle of the pack.
Here are a few key stats to help you make your DFS picks for Thursday’s NHL matchup on PrizePicks:
- The Panthers won the previous matchup, 5-1, on November 27.
- The Panthers have allowed 1.25 goals per game since February 22, the fewest in that span.
- The Maple Leafs are fourth in goals scored (4.00) since February 22.
- Panthers G Sergei Bobrovsky is fourth in wins (27).
- Maple Leafs F Auston Matthews is fifth in shots on goal (56) since February 1.
NHL PrizePicks Pick: Panthers F Carter Verhaeghe — 2.5 Shots On Goal
Oilers vs. Devils: Preview, Pick
Time: 7 p.m. ET
How to Watch: ESPN+
The Oilers are trying to get back to the Stanley Cup Finals but aren’t making it easy for themselves. They’ve been on a slide by going 3-7-0 and are losing ground on Vegas in the Pacific.
They have one of the best collections of offensive players, including two-time Hart Trophy winner Connor McDavid, and Leon Draisaitl is in contention to win it this year.
Their problem is inconsistent goaltending. Stuart Skinner can be great at times, but he’s the opposite at other times. He even lost his starting job during the playoffs last year.
The Devils are holding onto third place in the Metropolitan, but they may not be for much longer. They recently lost Jack Hughes for the year, who was leading the team in goals at the time of his injury, as well as their best two-way defenseman Dougie Hamilton, who will miss an extended period.
Last year, they had no goaltending, but they brought in Jacob Markstrom, who could help them contend thanks to his 2.36 goals allowed.
Here are a few key stats to help you make your DFS picks for Thursday’s NHL matchup on PrizePicks:
- The Devils beat the Oilers, 3-0, in their previous matchup on November 14.
- The Devils are fifth in power play percentage at home.
- Oilers G Stuart Skinner has allowed the seventh-most goals (53) since January 1st.
- Oilers F Leon Draisaitl’s 46 goals lead the league and are ten more than the next player.
NHL PrizePicks Pick: Devils F Nico Hischier — 1.5 Points (Demon)
