Saturday CBB DFS Picks & Game Previews for PrizePicks

Here are the five top games to target for CBB DFS fantasy production today, Saturday, February 15.

No. 1 Auburn vs. No. 2 Alabama: Preview, CBB Pick

Time: 4 p.m. ET
How to Watch: ESPN

The No. 1 Auburn Tigers (22-2, 10-1) make the drive up to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to take on in-state rival No. 2 Alabama (21-3, 10-1) in a game many believe has “game of the year” potential.

Both teams come in with SEC Championship aspirations and just one conference loss, and it is not out of pocket to call this the biggest regular season game in program history for both schools. It is rare for the top-ranked team in the country to face off against the No. 2 team — the last time this happened was in 2021.

The last time two in-state teams faced off as the top two was in February 2008, when No. 2 Tennessee defeated John Calipari’s then-undefeated No. 1 Memphis Tigers on the road. Derrick Rose starred for that Memphis team, and, interestingly, Tennessee’s coach at the time was current Auburn coach Bruce Pearl.

Pearl has Auburn rolling with just 29 days until Selection Sunday. Outside of last weekend’s home loss to No. 3 Florida, the Tigers have run through their SEC schedule with relative ease, tallying six double-digit victories in the country's toughest and “most balanced” conference.

For real, though, the SEC is stacked — bracketology aggregator Bracket Matrix has an absolutely insane 14 projected bids going to SEC teams, which would set an NCAA tournament record. While that is not necessarily realistic — 11 or 12 teams feels like the number of the season — it really just means more!

Bracket Matrix also lists Auburn as the projected No. 1 overall seed for March Madness. This makes sense, given the team’s record-setting offense — currently on pace to surpass the 2014-15 Wisconsin Badgers for best adjusted offensive efficiency, per KenPom — and a wealth of experience. Eight of Auburn’s nine major contributors are seniors, including Naismith Player of the Year candidate Johni Broome. The 6-foot-10 stat-sheet stuffer is averaging 18.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 2.7 blocks per game, which all lead the team.

On the other side, Alabama is looking to stay hot as well. The second most efficient offense in the country per KenPom has a mix of experience and younger talent across the board. Led by preseason All-American Mark Sears (17.8 PPG) and last year’s March Madness hero Grant Nelson (12.7 PPG, 8.1 RPG), Alabama is the second fastest paced offense in the nation and uses this to create more possessions for its high-scoring offense (seven 100-plus point games this season).

Head coach Nate Oats is widely regarded as one of the nation’s top coaches and was among the first to adopt an NBA-style, analytics-driven offensive approach to shot selection. The Tide challenged defenses with a specific focus on three-pointers and shots at the rim.

This game is one of the most anticipated games this season, and it looks like it should be one of more evenly matched games across the board as well.

Auburn boasts several impact players around Broome, including freshman standout Tahaad Pettiford (11.5 PPG) and senior guard Chad Baker-Mazara (12.2 PPG), a talented, but polarizing 25-year-old known for his aggressive play and occasionally questionable demeanor on the court.

Alabama can counter with seven players averaging more than 9.5 PPG and rim-protector Clifford Omoruyi. The Rutgers transfer isn’t a prolific scorer, but he and Nelson will play a key role in trying to contain Broome.

Don’t miss this massively important game and potential Final Four preview — a matchup KenPom projects to be one of the highest-scoring games on Saturday.

CBB PrizePicks Pick: Auburn F-C Johni Broome — Pts+Rebs+Asts

No. 6 Houston vs. No. 13 Arizona: Preview, CBB Pick

Time: 2 p.m. ET
How to Watch: ESPN

Two of the nation’s best programs — the No. 6 Houston  (20-4, 12-1) and No. 13 Arizona (17-7, 11-2) — square off in Tucson, Ariz., with massive Big 12 Championship implications at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday.

Houston is one of the most consistent basketball programs in the country. Led by coach Kelvin Sampson, the Cougars have topped 20 wins every season since 2015-16 and have more than 30 wins in each of the last three seasons. This year’s team is coming in on a heater, having won 16 of 17 games since the start of December.

Sampson’s roster recipe typically blends high-end recruiting with multi-year player development, topped off by a standout transfer portal addition as needed. Last year, Sampson brought in former-Baylor guard L.J. Cryer, who has fit seamlessly into Houston’s hard-nose culture while dropping dimes from deep (40% from 3-point range).

Fellow veteran J’wan Roberts and experienced underclassmen Emanuel Sharp and Terrance Arceneaux have this team humming. According to KenPom, the Cougars are one of just two teams ranked in the top six for both offensive and defensive efficiency.

The team’s ability to rely on either end of the court will be crucial in what is expected to be a raucous atmosphere at the McKale Center. Houston’s only visible flaw this season is its shooting — the team ranks in the middle of the pack nationally in field goal percentage. However, it makes up for its occasional offensive shortcomings with the nation’s fourth-highest offensive rebounding rate, which gives the team extra offensive possessions to work with.

Arizona’s 4-5 start — albeit against one of the toughest schedules in the country — was the worst start of head coach Tommy Lloyd’s career in Tucson. The Wildcats have since reeled off 13 wins in 15 games. This is in no small part due to the play of sophomore Henri Veesaar, who has filled the void left by injured trial by fire style as big man Motiejus Krivas, who is now out for the season.

The 7-foot Veesaar is averaging 13.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game over his last four contests, and will match up with a Houston team that, while feisty on the boards, does not have a player taller than 6-foot-8 in its rotation.

While fifth-year guard Caleb Love (15.8 PPG) makes headlines for buzzer-beaters and streaky shooting performances, junior guard Jaden Bradley (11.8 PPG) has quietly scored double-digit points in 10 of his last 13 games. Bradley is the ultimate stabilizer for a Wildcat offense that occasionally struggles with its shot selection and 3-point shooting (274th in the country).

One key to this game will be controlling the pace. While both teams are among the best in college basketball, they are incredibly different on the offensive end. According to KenPom, Arizona ranks 39th in tempo, while Houston runs its offense at a deliberate pace, ranking 360th nationally out of 364 teams.

Traditionally, the team that sets the tone early in each half finds the most success, as adjusting on the fly is difficult. The team that can dictate the flow and force the other to play out of its comfort zone will have a distinct advantage in this huge Big 12 showdown.

No. 15 Kentucky vs. Texas: Preview, CBB Pick

Time: 8 p.m. ET
How to Watch: ESPN

No. 15 Kentucky is fresh off of a second statement win against No. 5 Tennessee, this time a nine-point victory at Rupp Arena. The good news for Kentucky — it may have figured things out on the defensive end. After trending toward being one of the worst defensive teams in the country during conference play, the Wildcats have held their last two opponents to under 64 points.

In the win over Tennessee, the team’s best defender Lamont Butler reaggravated his shoulder injury and is unlikely to play tonight. In his place, the Cats will rely on in-state freshmen Trent Noah and Travis Perry to play big minutes, along with the team’s most consistent weapon Otega Oweh (15.9 PPG), who has posted double-digit points in every game this season.

While this defense ranks just 354th in defensive turnover percentage, Kentucky faithfuls hope this two-game home stretch is more than a mirage when the team travels to Austin for an opportunity to get a Quad 1 win.

Get ready to learn Tre Johnson, buddy. While Texas has lost four of its last five SEC games, the projected lottery pick has averaged 23.3 points and 3 three-pointers per game over the past six contests. The latest game was a 23-point home blowout in which Johnson put up 24 points.

The Longhorns rank among the nation's best in limiting its turnovers and generally excel in offensive metrics. However, the team is seeking another consistent scoring threat alongside Johnson. Experienced transfers Arthur Kaluma (12.9 PPG, 7.9 RPG) and Jordan Pope have had their blow-up performances this season, but Texas — desperate for a win to get back on track — needs all three weapons firing in the same game.

CBB PrizePicks Pick: Texas F Arthur Kaluma — Points

No. 11 Michigan State vs. Illinois:  Preview, CBB Pick

Time: 8 p.m. ET
How to Watch: FOX

Michigan State has had an interesting couple of weeks. The Spartans went 0-2 on their Los Angeles road trip, losing two close games to respectable opponents USC and UCLA. Back in East Lansing, Michigan State overcame a 14-point halftime deficit to beat Oregon, led by freshman guard Jase Richardson — son of 14-year NBA veteran Jason Richardson — who scored 29 points.

They then dropped a head-scratching game to a very mediocre Indiana team that recently announced its head coach would step down at the end of the season. On a more positive note, the Spartans defeated Illinois about a month ago in what was one of the best games of the college basketball season.

Hall of Fame coach Tom Izzo uses a true 10-man rotation, meaning they ride the hot hand every game. The Spartans are one of the better 2-point shooting teams in the nation and are hoping to get senior Jaden Akins going from 3-point range, where they rank a cool 354th nationally. With the NBA Slam Dunk Contest happening simultaneously tonight, look out for Coen Carr, a human highlight reel who may not put up big stats but is among the nation's best athletes and dunkers.

Like Michigan State, Illinois struggled for a bit, but things are looking like they are back on track. Shooting woes in road losses at Nebraska and Rutgers led coach Brad Underwood to shake up the rotation, which led to two strong performances against Minnesota and projected NCAA tournament participant UCLA.

As goes guard Kasparas Jakučionis, so go the Illini. The freshman from Lithuania and future lottery pick had one of his worst games of his college career last time out against the Spartans, scoring just three points on three attempts before fouling out in controversial fashion.

The Illini are among the best in the nation at shooting inside the arc, thanks to 7-fofot-1 Tomislav Ivisic and the emergence of forward Will Riley (19 PPG in the last five games). But like Michigan State, they struggle from 3-point range. Both Illinois and Michigan State are very good at defending the 3-point shot, so whichever team can control the 3-point line will have a huge advantage in this pivotal Big Ten game.

CBB PrizePicks Pick: Illinois C Tomislav Ivisic — Points
