Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes 34.5 Pass Attempts — More

Patrick Mahomes was cleared to start Saturday’s game after injuring his ankle against the Browns and being replaced by Carson Wentz in the 21-7 win.

Coach Andy Reid and WR DeAndre Hopkins expressed confidence in Mahomes’ performance and ability to play this week, saying he looks no different than what we’ve come to expect from Mahomes.

Even in what seems to be a down season for him, Mahomes volume is high compared to other quarterbacks around the league, making him a consistently good pick for NFL DFS.

This season, he is averaging around 36 passing attempts per game, almost a career low for him but still currently fifth in the NFL. Through his last five games, he is averaging 38.3 pass attempts and had 38 in his last game even though he came out early with an injury. He’s gone less than this projection only once in that same span.

We can expect the Texans to hang in this game, keeping the Chiefs offense balanced throughout. If Mahomes is as close to healthy as stated by his team, there is no reason he shouldn’t have more than 34.5 pass attempts.

Texans QB C.J. Stroud 3 Rush Attempts — More

Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud is experiencing somewhat of a sophomore slump, but that hasn’t stopped him from leading his team to their second-straight divisional title.

The Chiefs are a blitz-heavy defense, so Stroud will see a lot of pressure this week, forcing him to get the ball out quickly or roll out of the pocket. 

Stroud has 14 rush attempts through his last three games and has only had a game with less than three rush attempts three times this season. In a game against the Jets where he faced the most pressure and was sacked eight times, he also had eight rushes, his most all season.

Expect Stroud to rely on his legs multiple times throughout this game, whether it’s by design or due to pressure from the Chiefs defense.

Texans WR Tank Dell 49.5 Receiving Yards (Demon) — More

Texans WR Tank Dell hasn’t been having the season that everyone hoped he would have, unfortunately. He’s only received for more than 50 yards five times this season and even struggled to perform when Texans WR Nico Collins went out with injury for five weeks.

However, he has had multiple bright spots throughout the season, like when he caught for 126 yards against the Jets or 72 yards against the Titans, showing that he does have the potential to torch defenses. This game against the Chiefs will likely be one of those bright spots.

Like previously mentioned, the Chiefs defense blitzes often and gets after the quarterback so Stroud will have to get the ball out quickly. Dell had the best average separation score last year, and is a matchup problem for defensive backs. 

If the Texans want to win, they’ll have to incorporate Dell into the offense and get him the ball. With WR Nico Collins back, the Chiefs won’t be able to successfully guard both, leaving Dell opportunities to rack up yards.

Saturday NFL Game Prediction: Chiefs 24, Texans 17

The Chiefs have won four straight games since their loss to the Bills, and I don’t expect that streak to end Saturday. Stroud hasn’t played bad, but he also hasn’t played particularly well, and definitely not well enough to beat the Chiefs. Last week, in the win over the Dolphins, it was the Texans’ defense which carried them, as Stroud passed for only 131 yards.

The Chiefs are looking to preserve their No. 1 spot in the AFC, and if they drop a game to the Texans, they could see even more trouble against the Steelers and Broncos in the following weeks. A win here shores up that spot with the Bills trailing right behind them.

This Saturday NFL game should be an exciting one, and the Texans will put up a fight, but I don’t see them leaving Arrowhead Stadium with a win.
