The 2025 NFL Draft offers an incredibly deep class of prospects, especially at the running back position, including Ohio State RB TreVeyon Henderson.

Henderson was a key piece for the Ohio State Buckeyes as they won the National Championship, as he was one of two featured backs. This was his first healthy season since his freshman year, and he showed why he can be an excellent pick for an NFL team.

The 2025 NFL Draft class features a lot of running backs that could feature on NFL teams, and Henderson is part of that group. Henderson is our No. 4 RB prospect in this class.

We will analyze everything you need to know about TreVeyon Henderson in his NFL Draft scouting report below, including his draft pick projection, stats, combine performance, NFL player comparison, and more.

  • 590 Rush Attempts
  • 3,761 Rushing Yards

Henderson was in a split backfield with Quinshon Judkins this season, so it wouldn’t allow him to lead with any overall numbers, but he did lead the Big Ten with 7.1 yards per carry. He also led the conference in his freshman year with 6.8 yards per carry.

TreVeyon Henderson Game To Watch

Through a solid career, Henderson has put up some great performances, but this College Football Playoff game is one of the most important — and it probably did wonders for his draft stock.

January 10, 2025 — Ohio State vs. Texas (CFB Semifinal)

This isn’t a game where Henderson didn’t have the most explosive numbers, but he showed off all of his skills and had one of the more impactful plays of the game.

He had only six carries, but finished with 42 yards (7.0 yards per carry), and his receiving ability was the highlight.

In the last play before halftime, he made a catch in the middle of the field, showcasing his above-average footwork and acceleration after the catch, and ran 75 yards for a receiving touchdown. This is why he can be a great piece in any NFL backfield — he can catch the ball and make moves after it.

TreVeyon Henderson: 2025 Scouting Report

Strengths

Here are the strengths of Ohio State RB TreVeyon Henderson for the 2025 NFL Draft.

  • A great sense of vision, he can anticipate, time blocks, and burst through the line of scrimmage, the moment it opens.
  • His speed helps get through the line of scrimmage quickly, and defenders are already playing catch-up.
  • His footwork comes through, whether it’s juking would-be tacklers or cutting through lanes. This allows for extra yards and a breakout for big runs.
  • Not only is he athletic, but he's also tough. Even when he makes contact with defenders, he bounces off and can continue moving forward without losing his stride.
  • He has smart running instincts, knowing when to speed up, how to anticipate getting blocks, and when to fall forward.
  • Exceptional in the passing game, which separates him from many other RBs in this class
  • Uses that same running ability to gain yards after the catch.

Weaknesses

Here are the weaknesses of Ohio State RB TreVeyon Henderson.

  • Durability can be an issue as he missed a lot of games in 2022 & 2023.
  • There’s an issue of whether he can be a three-down back for a 17-game schedule. He has never reached 200 carries in a season and has been in a split backfield for most of his college career.
  • While he is a great receiver, his route running is too basic,. To be an above-average pass-catching running back, you need to be able to run different routes.

TreVeyon Henderson NFL Comparison: Ezekiel Elliott

It might be cheating to compare Henderson to one of the greatest running backs in Ohio State history, but when you look at how Ezekiel Elliott played early in his career, you can see a lot of Henderson.

Both of them are very similar in size, with Elliott at 6 foot and Henderson at 5-foot-10, and they both weigh about 215 pounds coming into the draft. Even some of their combine results were similar, with Elliott having a 4.43 40-yard dash to Henderson’s 4.47 and a 1.50 10-yard split for Elliott and 1.52 for Henderson.

Elliott is one of those methodical backs who will wait for his opening at the line of scrimmage and burst through, helping him get chunk yardage on almost every run. He was also a pass-catching back who excelled as an option in the RPO, and with effective blocking, he can break off a big play.

Elliott checked off the boxes as someone who had the size to collide with defensive linemen, run past defensive backs, while also being an above-average blocker. These are all of the things a team should expect to have when they bring in Henderson.

TreVeyon Henderson NFL Draft Projection

There are positives and negatives to the resurgence of the running back position. It will increase the draft value of the position, but it also widens the pool of players teams are looking at.

Within the top five running backs going into the draft, there is a substantial dropoff in the middle. Ashton Jeanty is the top running back and is projected to be a top ten pick. Omarion Hampton in any other draft class would be No. 1, and could be drafted in the first round as well.

After those two, there isn't a consensus ranking of the RB prospects. Henderson, along with Iowa’s Kaleb Johnson, Tennessee’s Dylan Sampson, and Henderson’s teammate Quinshon Judkins are in that tier two mix, with most experts having different rankings.

How teams see that second tier of running backs could be the difference between an early Day 2 pick or somewhere on Day 3.

When Henderson is on the field, he is an effective runner, and his career 6.4 yards per carry shows he will make an impact in a team’s backfield. What will ultimately have the team hesitant is the injury history, and that he has never had a 200-carry season. Teams do not want to spend a higher draft pick on someone who may get 12 to 14 touches per game.

That will send Henderson further down the draft, but his talent and versatility will likely land somewhere between the third and fourth round.
