Chargers vs. Cardinals: How to Watch MNF
Date: Monday, October 21, 2024
Time: 9:00 p.m. ET kickoff
Location: State Farm Stadium, Glendale, Ariz.
TV: ESPN+ (exclusive)
This is the only ESPN+ exclusive game of the year. You will have to have an ESPN+ subscription ($10.99/month) to watch Chargers vs. Cardinals on Monday Night Football.
The Chargers are 3-2, while the Cardinals have disappointed at 2-4. The Cardinals’ defense has been a significant problem, allowing 27.2 points per game and getting gauged in the passing game. Meanwhile, the Chargers have allowed just 13.2 points per game, which is the fewest in the NFL.
In terms of injuries, the most notable one is to that of Cardinals WR Marvin Harrison Jr., who suffered a concussion last week. Having the extra day between games helped though, and he was cleared to play on Saturday — a big boost for Cardinals QB Kyler Murray and this offense.
Chargers RB J.K. Dobbins 79.5 Rushing Yards — More
The Chargers have been a run-heavy offense this year. They have averaged just 25.5 pass attempts per game and rank 30th in pass play percentage.
Chargers RB J.K. Dobbins started off the season on a high note, rushing for at least 131 yards in both of his first two games. Still, he was splitting carries with RB Gus Edwards. With Edwards landing on injured reserve with an ankle injury coming out of their bye week, Dobbins received a season-high 25 carries against the Broncos in Week 6.
Dobbins made them count, totaling 96 yards and a touchdown. With 20+ carries potentially coming his way again this week, more is the way to go with this projection. The Cardinals’ defense has also allowed the fifth-highest explosive rush percentage (11.86%) in the league, per 4for4 Fantasy Football.
Cardinals RB James Conner 15 Rush Attempts — More
Cardinals RB James Conner only had seven carries last week against the Packers. The Cardinals were trailing by 14 points at halftime, so they had to throw a lot in the second half to play catch up.
The Chargers have not scored more than 26 points in a game and four of their five games have been decided by 12 or fewer points. When the Cardinals aren’t getting blown out, Conner is generally busy.
He has been given at least 16 carries in four of their six games and has three games with at least 18 carries. There’s no real competition in this backfield. With the expectation that the Cardinals can hang in this through at least the start of the fourth quarter, Conner should be busy.

TD Scorer Pick: Chargers WR Ladd McConkey — 0.5 Rush+Rec TDs (Demon)
Since the Chargers have allowed so few points per game, we’re going to avoid picking anyone on the Cardinals to score a touchdown. Instead, let’s look at Chargers WR Ladd McConkey.
According to 4for4, the Cardinals have allowed the 10th-highest explosive pass percentage (12.68%) in the league. They have also given up eight touchdown passes to wide receivers, which is tied for the fifth-most in the league.
Chargers WR Ladd McConkey has two touchdown receptions already this year and has been one of the Chargers’ top wide receivers, garnering 26.0% of the team’s targets.
Note: Demon picks add a payout boost to your lineup on PrizePicks, as they are more difficult projections to hit.
Goblin Pick: Chargers QB Justin Herbert 0.5 Pass TDs — More
Since the Chargers don’t throw much, Chargers QB Justin Herbert hasn’t produced many passing yards. He hasn’t topped 237 passing yards in a game this season and has four games with fewer than 180 passing yards, as they’re happy to keep the ball on the ground.
However, he has at least one touchdown pass in each game, which makes this look like a safe pick for your PrizePicks Lineups tonight. Given how many touchdowns the Cardinals have allowed through the air, this is a favorable spot for Herbert to continue his streak of games with a touchdown pass.
Note: Goblin picks reduce your payout on PrizePicks, as they are easier projections to hit.
Game Prediction: Chargers 24, Cardinals 17
The Cardinals enter this matchup with an uphill battle to get points on the board, despite Harrison being set to play this week. Although they haven’t been explosive on offense, the Chargers might not need to score much to win this game, especially if their defense continues to hold up. Expect their defense to carry them to a victory, while Herbert and Dobbins do enough on offense.
