Cowboys vs. 49ers: Sunday Night Football Picks and Predictions
We’ve got a classic NFC showdown on Sunday Night Football tonight between the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers. We’ve got Sunday Night Football picks and predictions for the game below for PrizePicks and NFL DFS.
In Week 6, the Cowboys are 3-3 after they were absolutely walloped by the Lions, losing 47-9. They’ve since had a bye week to make adjustments, but unfortunately for them, teams this season following playing the Lions are winless.
The 49ers on the other hand, with a season plagued with injuries and ailments, are harder to gauge. They show flashes of being contenders again, yet they are now a disappointing 3-4 after a loss to the Chiefs last week.
Below, we’ll highlight some of the best NFL DFS picks for Sunday Night Football and a touchdown scorer pick for the game.

Sunday Night Football Picks: Cowboys vs. 49ers
Here are three of the top Cowboys vs. 49ers picks on Sunday Night Football, plus a game prediction.
- 49ers RB Jordan Mason 14.5 Fantasy Score — More
- TD Scorer Pick: 49ers TE George Kittle 0.5 Rush+Rec TDs
- Kickers Brandon Aubrey + Anders Carlson — More than 48.5 Yards Longest FG Made
- Score Prediction: 49ers 27, Cowboys 20
49ers RB Jordan Mason 14.5 Fantasy Score — More
To address the elephant in the room, no one is certain if RB Christian McCaffrey will return this week. However, it seems unlikely, as he hasn’t practiced, so we will discuss this pick under the assumption CMC is not yet ready to return and RB Jordan Mason will be the bell cow.
The Cowboys are 31st in fantasy points allowed to running backs per game, behind only the Panthers. Some of those games were when their defense was far healthier. Dallas will still be without defensive ends Demarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons on Sunday Night. If you take all front seven personnel that have played at least 75 run snaps, you get 300 players. Per PFF, DT Mazi Smith grades out at No. 299 and DT Linval Joseph sits at No. 298.
While Mason has only cleared this projection 3-of-7 games, he is due for some positive regression in the TD category, which counts for six points towards his needed 14 in fantasy score.
Last week, QB Brock Purdy vultured two TDs from the one yard line and the week before FB Kyle Juszczyk punched one in from the six yard line. Despite all this Jordan Mason is tied in red-zone rushes with Rams RB Kyren Williams with 31. The third highest is at just 23 attempts.
The cherry on top of this banged up Cowboys defense is they also surrender the second-most rushing TDs in the NFL. I don’t see any way Mason doesn’t have a field day, doing whatever he wants to the porous Cowboys defense up the gut and getting into the end zone at will, and the PrizePicks board agrees, setting his TD projection as a Goblin.

49ers TE George Kittle 0.5 Rush+Rec TDs — More (Demon)
Fun fact, national TE day falls on the fourth weekend of October. It’s well documented that George Kittle loves this day. Another fun fact, the last time these two teams met for Sunday night football, Kittle caught three touchdown passes.
WR Brandon Aiyuk is done for season, WR Deebo Samuel is questionable and battling an illness, and WR Jauan Jennings is out – all indications point to a Kittle masterclass.
If a tight end this season has been in a slump, the Cowboys have been helpful in getting them right through their six games. The Cowboys have given up:
- Lions TE Sam Laporta’s only TD
- Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth scored one of his two TDs
- Steelers TE Connor Heyward's only TD
And that’s just across their last two games.
The difference here though, is Kittle is in the opposite of a slump. Despite sitting out Week 3, he has more TDs than any other TE with five. He also grades as the second-highest graded TE per PFF. Look for Kittle to continue his hot start with the weapons around him banged up.
PrizePicks also has a George Kittle + Jake Ferguson 0.5 Rush+Rec Touchdown combo projection on the board if you trust one of the TEs to get one and don’t want to go the Demon route. Jake Ferguson averages 5 receptions a game, but has yet to post a TD.
Note: Demon picks add a payout boost to your lineup on PrizePicks, as they are more difficult projections to hit.

Cowboys/49ers Kickers Brandon Aubrey + Anders Carlson — More than 47.5 Longest FG Made Yards
Until Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey’s wheels fall off, this is a play I love every week. Aubrey alone has hit from 48+ nine times this season. On average, he is clearing this projection by himself at 1.5 times a game.
Aubrey has outscored many of his teammates in fantasy points this season, and grades first among all FG kickers on PFF.
Last season through 17 games he only attempted a 50+ yarder ten times, but drilled every one of them. He has earned his team’s confidence in kicking the long ball anytime they get in a situation to do so, going 8-of-9 thus far through just six games.
Now that the case for Aubrey clearing this without help has been made, enter Anders Carlson. While he has only played in one game this season, he alone would have cashed this projection last week, hitting from 55 yards out. An opposing kicker to the Cowboys has hit from 49+ yards in two out of six games, and 48 in three of six.
Sunday Night Football Prediction: 49ers 27, Cowboys 20
This one feels like it could go either way, as the 49ers have lost ones they should have won, but the Cowboys defense simply looks too soft to keep them in the game.
Even if the Cowboys offense is firing on all cylinders following the bye week, until the defense gets healthy, they won’t be able to stop anything, as evidenced by the Lions 47-point performance in their last game. Purdy and Co. will have their way in this one and edge out the Cowboys in Santa Clara.
