American (22-12, 13-5 Patriot) is making its first appearance in the Big Dance since 2014. The Eagles won 15 of their last 18 games following a 7-9 start.

The Mountaineers led the MAAC in effective field goal percentage at 53.4%, but stepped up defensively down the stretch. Mount St. Mary’s allowed 58 points or fewer in each of the three wins in the MAAC tournament.

The Eagles will look to slow the pace as they rank 349th in the country in tempo. American uses nearly 20 seconds per possession according to KenPom, which is the ninth-longest average possession length in the nation.

Xavier vs. Texas: Preview, Pick

Time: 9:10 p.m. ET
How to Watch: truTV

Texas (19-15, 6-12 SEC) is the first of 14 SEC teams to take the floor in the NCAA tournament. The Longhorns squeezed into the Big Dance despite losing eight of their final 11 games.

On the flip side, Xavier (21-11, 13-7 Big East) won its final seven games of the regular season before getting bounced by Marquette in the Big East Tournament.

The Musketeers rank sixth in the nation in 3-point percentage at 38.8% and eighth in free-throw shooting at 79.4%.

The Longhorns didn't do a lot well in SEC play by ranking 12th in offensive efficiency and 11th in defensive efficiency. Texas helped themselves by winning a pair of games in the SEC tournament over Vanderbilt and Texas A&M.
