During his time at Montverde, the 17-year-old was named National Player of the Year multiple times. He reclassified to be part of the 2024 recruiting class where he was named as the consensus No. 1 high school prospect and later committed to Duke, where he debuted this season.

Cooper Flagg is 17 years old and does not turn 18 until December 21. When Flagg gets drafted next year, he will spend a few months playing in the NBA as an 18-year-old. That will make him one of the youngest players to play in the NBA.

Cooper Flagg Chooses Duke
Flagg committed to Duke on October 30, 2023, revealing his commitment in an interview in Slam Magazine. Duke was one of the frontrunners to sign Flagg from the start due to head coach Jon Scheyer’s commitment to attending his games.
The freshman chose the Durham, NC, school over UConn.
Cooper Flagg Shoe Deal & New Balance Contract
Back in August, Flagg announced he was signing an NIL deal with New Balance. One of the New Balance manufacturing factories is located just 20-plus miles from where Flagg grew up in Newport. With both the shoe company and Flagg having New England roots, the signing just made sense.
While the value of the deal is unknown, reports that a “significant amount of money” was part of the deal to get him. Flagg will be wearing Nike exclusively while he is at Duke however because of the school’s deal with Nike.
New Balance has made a recent commitment to signing big-time athletes recently. In the NBA, Kawhi Leonard, Tyrese Maxey, and Jamal Murray are all with New Balance. They also have a deal with Shohei Ohtani, the best player in baseball.
How Much is Cooper Flagg’s NIL Deal Worth?
According to On3, Flagg’s estimated NIL valuation sits at $2.6 million. As mentioned above, he has an NIL deal with New Balance and the exact value of that deal is currently unknown, but that likely makes up a large chunk of it. Flagg is No. 5 on On3’s NIL 100, and No. 1 in college basketball.
Flagg currently also has NIL deals with Gatorade and Cort Furniture. Cort is a furniture rental company based out of Georgia.

Cooper Flagg on Team USA
Cooper Flagg was the first college player in over a decade to make the USA Select Team since Marcus Smart and Doug McDermott represented the team in 2013. During scrimmages against Team USA, the Duke freshman impressed many with his shotmaking, athleticism, and his defensive abilities.
One of the sequences that caught the most attention was his confidence to shoot a pull-up three-pointer with Anthony Davis guarding him and then running back on the immediate turnover to get an and-one on a put-back.
Cooper Flagg NBA Draft & NBA Comparison
Flagg is projected to enter the 2025 NBA Draft and is the consensus No. 1 pick in all mock drafts, which is unlikely to change. The Duke freshman has strong comparisons to Utah Jazz legend Andrei Kirilenko, as both are two-way forwards.
Both Flagg and Kirilenko are elite defenders and are considered as a Swiss Army knife on that end of the floor. However, Kirilenko was the 24th overall pick, but he did go onto to become an NBA All-Star in 2004.
The 17-year-old still has to add some polish to his offensive game, especially while shooting from the perimeter, which is another similarity he has with the Russian.
