Let’s dive into the MLB Thursday slate below.

Astros P Hunter Brown – 6 Strikeouts

Astros P Hunter Brown logged six innings in his first start of the season, allowing three runs (two earned) and recording seven strikeouts against the Mets. Dating back to last season, Brown has recorded at least six strikeouts in seven of his last nine starts.
Brown had three pitches with a whiff rate of at least 29.4% last season. His best was his knuckle curve (30.5%), followed by his changeup (29.6%) and four seamer (29.4%). While the Twins haven’t faced many strikeout pitchers to begin the season, Cardinals P Sonny Gray recorded six strikeouts over five innings against them. White Sox P Martin Perez even registered nine strikeouts over six innings against them.
Yankees 3B Jazz Chisholm Jr. – 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI

Yankees 3B Jazz Chisholm Jr. has recorded at least one hit in three of five games this season. In two of those games, he recorded multiple hits. Of his six hits, three of them have been home runs.
Chisholm has found himself in an ideal spot within the Yankees lineup, often hitting behind Yankees OF Aaron Judge. That has helped him rack up six RBI to go along with his five runs scored. He will be facing Diamondbacks P Merrill Kelly, who has had problems with left-handed hitters. While he had a 1.04 WHIP and a 2.66 xFIP against right-handed hitters last season, he had a 1.29 WHIP and a 5.05 xFIP versus lefties.

Diamondbacks 2B Ketel Marte – 6.5 Hitter Fantasy Score

The Diamondbacks have one of the best lineups in baseball. Last season, they led all of baseball in runs scored (886) and finished second in OPS (.777). They have scored at least six runs in four of their six games this season, including 11 total runs in their first two games against the Yankees.
Diamondbacks 2B Ketel Marte has started out this season 7-for-24 with six runs scored, two doubles and one RBI. He has more walks (six) than he does strikeouts (four). A great matchup awaits him against Yankees P Carlos Carrasco, who has finished with a WHIP of 1.40 or higher in three of the last four seasons. Carrasco has also registered back-to-back seasons in which he allowed a wOBA of at least .356 to left-handed hitters.
Home Run Pick: Diamondbacks 3B Eugenio Suarez

Home runs have also been an issue for Carrasco. Last season, he allowed 1.7 HR per nine innings. The season prior, he gave up 1.8 HR/9. Part of the problem is that he is not an overpowering force, finishing with a strikeout rate of 19.9% or lower in both of those seasons.
After a down power season with the Mariners in 2023, 3B Eugenio Suarez hit 30 home runs and had a .214 ISO with the Diamondbacks last season. He has picked up right where he left off, launching five home runs through six games this season.
Given Carrasco’s propensity for giving up home runs, Suarez could prove to be a difficult matchup for him.
