With the NFL Draft approaching, it’s time to get to know the top prospects. The 2025 NFL Draft gives us an incredible draft class with a lot of talent, including Boise State’s Heisman Trophy runner-up Ashton Jeanty.

Jeanty had one of the greatest college football seasons of all time, as his 2,601 rushing yards were the second-most ever in a single season. His 29 rushing touchdowns were more than over 100 college football teams.

With this historical year, Jeanty is getting a lot of first-round hype, but the biggest concern for some NFL teams is that he did this in a mid-major conference. Can he make the big leap to face some of the best defenses in the world?

We will break down everything you need to know about Ashton Jeanty in the NFL Draft below, including his draft pick projection, stats, combine performance, NFL player comparison, and more.

At PrizePicks, you can win real money by making predictions for the upcoming NFL Draft, including where Jeanty will be drafted. We will analyze the top NFL Draft prospects and where they will likely be drafted to help you make your PrizePicks NFL Draft lineup.

2024 was not only the best season of his career but one of the best seasons ever for a running back as he led the country with:

  • 374 Rushing Attempts
  • 2,601 Rushing Yards
  • 29 Rushing Touchdowns

Ashton Jeanty Combine Results

Hand: 9 ¼”

Ashton Jeanty Game To Watch

It’s hard to name just one game where Jeanty dominated, as he rushed for over 200 yards in six games.

September 9, 2024 — Boise State vs. Oregon

Jeanty had 192 rushing yards and three touchdowns in this game against one of the nation’s best defenses. He has put up better stats in his career, but what stands out is the level of this opponent.

This was against Oregon, who was the No. 1 team for a long time during the season and in the CFB Playoffs. The question scouts have is, are his numbers inflated because he was in a lesser conference? Putting up these numbers against one of the best teams in the nation could be a positive.

Ashton Jeanty Achievements

Jeanty was already one of the best running backs in the nation coming into 2024, but he really burst onto the scene this year, leading Boise State to the College Football Playoff

  • 2024 Heisman Trophy Runner-Up
  • 2024 College Football rushing leader — 2,601 rushing yards. Only Barry Sanders (2,628) has had more in a season.
  • 2024 Robert Maxwell Award Winner for most outstanding player
  • 2024 Doak Walker Award for best running back
  • 2024 Bobby Bowden Trophy Winner
  • 2024 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award for best offensive player
  • 2024 Unanimous All-American
  • 2024 Associated Press, USA Today, and CBS Sports Unanimous First Team All-American
  • 2023 & 2024 All-Mountain West First Team
  • 2023 & 2024 Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year

Ashton Jeanty: Strengths

Here are the strengths for Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty.

  • Patience to wait for his blocks to develop and get the most out of his run.
  • Great initial burst off the line of scrimmage.
  • Stays low and establishes a wide base, which makes him challenging to take down.
  • Among the toughest runners to tackle, with 284 missed tackles and 4.5 yards after contact.
  • Can handle a heavy workload and finished with 375 carries in 2024.

Ashton Jeanty: Weaknesses

Here are the weaknesses for Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty.

  • Tends to have trouble with ball security when fighting for extra yards.
  • Never proved himself to be an impactful receiver, and his value drops if he isn’t on the field on pass-catching downs.
  • Could be undersized to take on NFL-caliber defensive fronts, and those yards after contact could drastically diminish.
  • Below-average pass and run blocker, which could take snaps away in important situations.

Ashton Jeanty NFL Comparison: Maurice Jones-Drew

Jeanty and Maurice Jones-Drew (5-feet-7, 207 pounds) are similar in size and running style. Jones-Drew, a Jaguars' legend, ran low to the ground and was extremely difficult to take down.

He had a blend of power and speed, and while he could plow through defenders, he also had the acceleration to break away for a big run. Jones-Drew finished his career as a three-time Pro Bowler and in 2011 led the league with 343 carries and 1,606 yards. Those stats could be his floor if Jeanty lives up to his hype.

Ashton Jeanty NFL Draft Projection

After being devalued for a long time, the running back position has started to make a comeback. A couple of years ago, Bijan Robinson and Jahymyr Gibbs went in the first round, and it has paid off for their teams. The Eagles broke through and won a Super Bowl with the addition of Saquon Barkley.

Jeanty put up historical numbers with 2,601 rushing yards, with only Barry Sanders having more in a college football season. The concern for teams is that those performances were against teams in a mid-major conference with almost no NFL-potential players. That doesn’t mean he can’t succeed at the next level; just look at Jackson State’s Walter Payton.

There is an excellent chance that Jeanty doesn’t make it out of the top ten. The Jaguars at No. 5 did not have any consistency at the running back position last year, and Jeanty could elevate that offense. The Raiders at No. 6 virtually had no run game by finishing last in rushing yards per game (79.8) after letting Josh Jacobs walk, with the next team having 90. The Bears at No. 10 did not have success with D’Andre Swift and might want a young QB/RB combo for their future. The Cowboys have been considered a popular destination at No. 12, but they would possibly have to trade up.

A young workhorse running back has more value than ever in the league and could make Jeanty an early pick in the front half of the first round.
