The 2025 NFL Draft is right around the corner, and all eyes are on the top prospects — none more so than Colorado’s Travis Hunter. Hunter is a rare two-way star who plays both wide receiver and cornerback, making him a top Draft prospect across every NFL Draft expert’s board.

Hunter was decorated as one of the best college football players in 2024, including winning the Heisman Trophy over RB Ashton Jeanty. Not only did he put up some impressive numbers and make the weekly highlight reel with incredible ball skills, he also helped Colorado improve from 4-8 in 2023 to 9-4 in 2024.

The intriguing factor is that he played full time at cornerback and wide receiver. NFL teams wonder if that can translate to the level, and some are skeptical it can.

We will break down everything you need to know about Travis Hunter in this profile, including his draft pick projection, stats, combine performance, strengths, and more.

At PrizePicks, you can win real money by making predictions for the upcoming NFL Draft, including where Hunter will be drafted. We will analyze the top NFL Draft prospects and where they could be drafted to help you make your PrizePick NFL Draft lineup.

Travis Hunter Game To Watch

Travis Hunter made highlight reel after highlight reel in college at Colorado. But here’s the game that stood above the rest.

November 29, 2024 — Colorado vs. Oklahoma State

This is a prime example of what teams could get if they draft Hunter, as he had excellent performances on both sides of the field. On offense, he had 116 receiving yards and a season-high three touchdowns. On defense, he had an interception and two passes defended. This is the only game where he had multiple receiving touchdowns and an interception against an FBS opponent.

Travis Hunter: Strengths

  • Significantly improved as a cornerback this season. He developed an ability to recognize route progressions and mirror the receiver’s steps.
  • As a receiver, he has sticky hands, and thanks to elite-level body control, he can catch the ball at any angle and height, from into his chest to stretched out hands, to catching it low and high.
  • Great initial burst and can gain separation quickly. He also has great secondary speed to widen the gap as a receiver and stay on his assignment as a defender when covering long routes.
  • Not afraid to do the dirty work, as he is a high-level blocker and receiver who will stay firm with bigger receivers.
  • Endurance level cannot be compared to anyone's, as he took more snaps at cornerback than any other Power Four player while being a WR1.

Travis Hunter: Weaknesses

  • Trying to play both positions will be difficult at the NFL level, especially with preparation. There is a fear that he could become average at both positions instead of concentrating on one and becoming elite at it.
  • His route tree isn’t complex or developed enough to compete against NFL cornerbacks.
  • Sometimes relies too heavily on athleticism and ball skills, and this does not always work at the next level.
  • Noticeably struggles as a slot corner and isn’t as good at covering shifty receivers that rely on underneath routes.

Travis Hunter NFL Comparison: Charles Woodson

It’s difficult to compare anyone with Travis Hunter, but Woodson is as close as it comes. Woodson was an elite defensive back who occasionally played wide receiver and returned kicks at the college level. That unique set of skills helped him win the Heisman Trophy and be drafted No. 4 overall.

This looks like the same path Hunter is headed on. Woodson did what many believe Hunter should do, and that was to concentrate on one position. Woodson would focus entirely on playing defensive back, which helped him get a bust in Canton.

Will Hunter do the same? It may all depend on what team he’s drafted by. Regardless, how Hunter is used by his new team will be one of the biggest discussion points after the NFL Draft.

NFL Draft Projection: Is Travis Hunter A Top-Five Pick?

Hunter is one of the best overall athletes in this draft, and that alone makes him worthy of being taken early. As he gets into the interview process, the question will be asked if he is willing to focus on one position.

Hunter has expressed that he wants to play both cornerback and wide receiver in the NFL to this point. Fortunately for NFL teams, he has high potential at both positions. However, with the lower level of talent in college, that is much easier, as opposed to the NFL, where you’ll face the best players weekly.

Many players have dabbled on both sides, but no one has played full time. Playing both sides is a catch-22; seeing the process of each side allows him to understand the opposition, and he can use that to his advantage, but not concentrating on one position takes time away from perfecting his craft at one position. He will need to learn that on the fly, and going against elite talent will force him to speed up the process.

Many evaluators believe he would be a better cornerback. He has the football IQ and speed to be one of the best at that position.

It’s hard to see him escaping out of the top five picks on draft day, and he could become a primary cornerback that occasionally plays wide receiver or as a gadget player.
