How Does The NFL Playoff Bracket Work?
A total of 14 teams make the NFL Playoffs this year; seven from the NFC. Here’s how it works.
- #1 Seed Advantage: The top-seeded team (the team with the best record) in each conference gets a bye in the Wild Card Round.
- Matchups Are Based on Seeding: In the Wild Card Round, #7 plays #2, #6 plays #3, and #5 plays #4 in their respective conferences. After each round, the highest seeded team remaining in each conference plays the lowest remaining seed.
- Elimination Each Week: Teams are eliminated weekly until only two remain; from 14 to eight to four to two, who will go to the Super Bowl.
Here is what the NFL Playoffs Bracket looks like, via Sporting News. Keep in mind the reseeding noted above before every round. The higher seed always has home field advantage.
When is the 2025 Super Bowl?
