We have a Wednesday matchup between two teams that are playing really well.
It was a rough start to the season for Milwaukee. There was even a rumor going around that they might trade Giannis Antetokounmpo. That certainly won’t happen now as they are in the middle of a seven-game winning streak. Giannis is having an MVP-level season as he leads the league in points per game (32.9) and is fifth in rebounds (11.9).
PG Damian Lillard has been efficient as he’s tenth in points (25.9) and assists (7.8). Now the offense is starting to gel, as they are averaging 119.4 points per game during this streak.
Atlanta knows its identity: run-and-gun, fast-paced offense. The Hawks are one of the fastest teams in the league, ranking second in offensive possessions per game, and are near the top in points per game. They play virtually no defense, which hurt them early on, but with F De’Andre Hunter getting healthy and PF Jalen Johnson having a breakout season, they are on a four-game winning streak of their own.
Both teams can score and play little defense, so we should expect a lot of points.

The Clippers are certainly not a top-tier team, but they are not at the bottom. What they’re doing is waiting for Kawhi Leonard to return.
When he’s integrated back into the lineup, they’ll know whether or not they are contenders. They definitely need Leonard’s offensive skill because their offense is struggling, ranking 21st in offensive efficiency (1.080). What has kept them in contention is their defense, as they rank sixth in defensive efficiency (1.058).
The Timberwolves made changes in the offseason, including trading away C Karl-Anthony Towns. SG Anthony Edwards remains, and he is a playmaker, averaging 26.7 points, but PF Julius Randle has been the best part of the return, averaging 21.0 points this season.
As good as the Clippers’ defense is, the Timberwolves, with Edwards, can get it going when they need to, and I like them in this spot with the rest advantage.

The Celtics are holding down the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference and are one of the more balanced teams in the NBA, as they are one of two teams (with the Thunder) that are top eight in adjusted offensive ranking (1st) and defensive ranking (8th).
The Celtics are led by Tatum, who could make his way into the MVP conversation if he leads this team to a No. 1 seed. He’s playing great, with 30+ point efforts in two of his last three games. He gets the rest advantage against the Pistons, who suffered a 21-point loss at home on Tuesday and now have to go into Boston.

The Pacers are not living up to offseason expectations, as they sit at 9-13 and would currently get the last spot in the Play-In Tournament.
We knew this wasn’t a team that defends, but when you’re allowing more points (119) than you’re scoring (114), this explains why they are sitting in their current position.
They will take on the Nets, who have an identical record but had lower expectations coming into this season. The Pacers will look to shoot quickly with their fast-paced offense, and they can be confident in potential second-chance points with Turner under the glass.
Brooklyn has been awful at boxing out big men, ranking 28th in rebounds allowed per game to centers (14.6). We’ll take the points and rebounds because Turner thrives in isolation, and he is an efficient perimeter shooter up against a poor defense.

After the Lakers started off hot at 10-4, they have lost five of their last seven games.
The big reason why they’re struggling is a lack of depth. They have one of the lowest-scoring benches in the league, and with your two best players being older, it’s too long of a season for them to sustain that level of play.
Davis is one of them, as his production has dipped from that hot, MVP-like start to the year. Now he faces the Heat, who are tenth in defensive efficiency (1.088). Davis will see a lot of Bam Adebayo, who is one of the top front-court defenders.
Miami defends well everywhere, so this will be a game where everyone wearing purple and gold will struggle.
